This was so well written! There was a noticeable difference in the tone and dialogue of the present day plot and the 1881 plot. This isn't always done very well but Shalini Boland managed to convey the differences in speech and attitudes with apparent ease. Alexandre's character development was quick, changing from a Jack the lad type character to a more sensitive man, but despite the speed this felt authentic. I wasn't sure about Ben's character as his dialogue wasn't always consistent, but this wasn't enough to detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. Hidden kept me intrigued and held my attention throughout. I was shocked when I glances and saw how little I had left to read. The plot did lose a little something when the two time periods came together, but I can't put my finger on what that was. I was very pleased that Alexandre didn't instantly start speaking or acting in a modern way, which showed excellent control from the author. Overall, a brilliant mix of old-fashioned Paris, modern day England, mystery, supernatural, romance and action. With a very good vampire origin story. I will be purchasing the next book in the Marchwood Vampires series ASAP!
