Review: Between You and Me by Lisa Hall

Published: March 2016

Pages: 337

Synopsis: “They say every marriage has its secrets.

But no one sees what happens behind closed doors.

And sometimes those doors should never be opened …

Sal and Charlie are married. They love each other. But they aren’t happy. Sal cannot leave, no matter what Charlie does – no matter how much it hurts.”

Rating: *****

At times Between You and Me was difficult to read because of both the violence and malice that Charlie displayed towards Sal, and when Sal did something innocent you knew what was to come. As soon as Sal made a decision, as the reader you could instantly see how Charlie would interpret it and what the ramifications would be. It was interesting seeing both sides of the story in parallel, as often with novels about domestic violence you only see one side or read all of one perspective and then all of the other. The way Between You and Me alternated kept the individual situations fresh in the reader's mind.

Between You and Me was very well written with an awesome twist. I would recommend this to readers who enjoyed the likes of Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train. A definite must read for fans of psychological thrillers. I will definitely be reading more by Lisa Hall.
