I don't usually read graphic novels or manga, but I came across Devil's Ridge, the first instalment in The Dark Earth series while doing one of my "let's see what I can get on Amazon Kindle for free" sessions. I was instasntly intrigued, so much so that I purchased the second instalment Hidden Past straightaway.
I was however, very disappointed at the length, especially as I had just paid over £4 for something I had read within 10 minutes. This is the only thing putting me off buying the rest of the 9-part series.
Devil's Ridge begins with Aidan, his Mum and younger sister Sarah on their way to move in with their Grandfather, Patrick. Quite soon you realise that all is not well between Mum Anna and her Father, and you learn this is to do with Patrick's involvement in a town-wide cult and another group called the Sidhe, who Anna believes adopted Aidan is one of.
The second book; Hidden Past also included a short story (written rather than manga) revolving around Aidan and member of the Sidhe Asher.
I would definitely love to read the rest of the series, but at £4 a go, it's going to be very expensive.
