The Dark Nights is a children's horror story written by 11 year old Abdullah Mujeeb. You can tell the book is written by a young author, as the writing style and description is very simplistic. The plot was also simplistic, with helpful items conveniently to hand "...Jennifer even saw a Black Mamba, lying on the 2nd floor of Hauntcastle. She killed it with an axe she found there...". Despite this, The Dark Nights would definitely appeal to younger children and could be used as a bridge to more mature novels. There were some good references to modern life such as WikiHow, Samsung mobiles the film Rio 2, which gives the story a time period and further reinforces the setting. Being so young, I feel the author is incredibly brave to put his work out there and with some practice and maturity, Abdullah Mujeeb could become a good, promising writer.
